Athlete Rylie visited her favorite state Arizona for epic senior pictures this month while on a whirlwind tour of gymnastic competitions and clinics across the Southwest. She is expected to excel at a top level in all areas of the demanding sport, but she says her favorite parts are uneven bars, balance beam. Her hard work and training were really evident in every effortless movement from walking, to posing, to leaping on top of a mountain barefoot she made it look so easy! A fun session full of smiles and grace!
Fantastic Summer senior session with avid hiker and naturalist Dylan last week at White Tanks Mountain Park! Dylan is a photographer too so we had a great time talking shop and getting fun images in the mountains. Like my family Dylan and his visited and feel in love with Arizona, and couldn’t wait to get here among the wild cacti and adventure. Have a fantastic senior year in Phoenix Dylan!
For small photography sessions (5 folks and under) the White Tanks Rangers are very friendly and accommodating with a small fee and just breath taking views and trails. Be careful of the waterfall area in the hot months- if there is any water in the small basin at the bottom there are so many bees! Leave the area and them, ah, “be” because we need those guys and nobody wants to end a hike with a thousand stings.
Will totally crushed his senior portrait session in downtown Phoenix last week! I couldn’t wait to get these photos uploaded and edited. And the folks over at Indie Senior Magazine noticed too! About 2 mins after I posted Will’s sneak peeks on my Instagram- they re-grammed them and featured his pictures on their Instagram page!
Congrats Will! Fantastic job and have a great graduation!
Haven’t even finished editing his gallery and Will was already chosen as a fashion feature on Indie Seniors Instagram page! Ever have one of those sessions when you had a pretty good idea it was going to go well right from the start? Well check out this one below, clocking in at about 10 mins after just meeting Will in downtown Phoenix for his senior portrait experience!
Much more to come when I finish Will’s gallery this week!!
So excited to have THREE of my amazing senior clients from the Class of 2019 featured in The Senior Best magazine! Congrats to Kaylee, Shelby, and Noelle!!
Two page spread for Kaylee graduating from
I always say it takes great kids to make great photos- what a great group of kids this is! Rising seniors Class of 2020 and graduating 2019 got together for fun Prom2K19 downtown Phoenix Arizona at the Steele Indian Park. Later this group grabbed some corndogs at Sonic then headed off to dance at Wrigley Mansion!

Senior pictures should be a fun experience- and Kiana wanted to head to downtown Phoenix for a sophisticated urban cityscape backdrop to celebrate her upcoming graduation! Phoenix has the best colours and light for fantastic grad photos, and Kiana really lit up the city with her smile and poses- no wonder as she is an accomplished pageant winner, as well as her high schools Homecoming AND Prom queen! Such a wonderful and accomplished young person- it was fantastic meeting Kiana for her Graduation senior portraits!
Another fantastic senior session with Isabel at the Desert Botanical Gardens! Izzy danced and posed, and twirled in blue smoke- so many great memories to deliver to her and her family this week!
An artist and special soul need a special senior portrait session: complete with Arizona wildflowers, paint, and purple smoke! Congrats to Mackenzie on her many accomplishments and upcoming graduation! It has been such a pleasure getting to know you!

Such a great, fun session with sparkling Carly!! Don’t her big eyes make you want to sing? Wonderful high school graduation senior session on the top of Peoria Az’s little Eastwing Mountain overlook with the bright Class of 2019 choir kid! So happy I got to meet Carly and her family, so excited to see what adventures this star takes through graduation and beyond!!
Left: natural light at the end of golden hour. 85mm, ISO 100, f1.4, 1/800SS
Right: off camera flash just at the start of blue hour. 35mm, ISO 200, f5.6, 1/1000SS
Another reason I just can’t resist using BOTH beautiful kinds of light at my portrait sessions- I love the creamy artistic natural light looks but also oh my, oh my those dramatic skies!
That sky ain’t photoshopped folks- its just able to show off its blues when I light the subject, lovely Carly, with an off camera flash :)
I LOVE it when seniors have a unique spot picked out- someplace they love and want to incorporate into their session. Custom sessions are pretty much my favorites because they always showcase the seniors personality and style- and hey thats why I actively pursue (or just nag) seniors to choose their location adventure! Added bonus: when the locations rock and are happy to serve as a beautiful backdrop- huge thank you to Restoration Hardware for being so open and inviting to us! Fantastic location choice Shelby!!! Isn’t she stunning???
Had such a great time meeting up with Faith and her folks down on Hermitage Square for her high school senior portrait session! Downtown Phoenix is an adventure of colours, and great photo textures- and sometimes adventures in finding parking spaces!! But Faith’s smiles lit the city up brighter than the sunshine :)
Fantastic time with Katie for her graduation pictures at the Desert Botanical Gardens at the beginning of the month. She was all ethereal beauty one moment, and Carrie Fisher spunky smiles the next!
Now Senior photo session season is in full swing! (get it- golf joke) Can’t believe Katie and the rest of the Class of 2019 is just a few months from graduation!!!

I have had the pleasure of knowing her a few years now as she has lead my daughters band, and can I just say this kid is so dang cool! Lauren is a leader, a musician, and a haircut trendsetter- but she’s also the kindest, coolest, and funniest person! Loved out session down on roosevelt Row in Phoenix- we visited all the murals and lite them up with Lauren’s smile and some smoke bombs! Can’t wait to read all about her future adventures!!!
The splashes of colour and city vibe have def been the most popular spots this high school senior portrait session season! We are so blessed to live in a vibrant fun city with so many neat spots- and Mikaela rocked them all! From Roosevelt Row to Grand ave this Arizona girl stunned in her graduation photo session!
We had some help from Mikaleas brother Aaron- he manned the Ice Light on a fushia setting to create the zig zag halo behind her head for this photo!
Phoenix had a surprisingly windy and cold- snowy even- and so Hannah’s senior session was a whirlwind of colourguard flags in the wind and golden curls. After warming in up in charming BeCoffee the sun popped out to end the afternoon session in warmth and reflections in Phoenix!
I am over the orange moon to have learned this weekend that I was selected as one of
Senior Inspire’s 50 to Follow in 2019- and only ONE of 10 selected in the guys category!
Thank you so much to Senior Inspire, Davin for being my awesome Class of 2019 senior winner, and everyone who trusts me with their children’s memories. <3

I am SO tired of all the styled shoots that are "pretty" let's be honest for a second...I WANT REAL LIFE. I want you to think outside the box. How do you react in real life situations. -Valie Waldvogel, VW Photography
The other night I got to go on a photography ‘playdate’ - you know us photographers, the glitz, the glam, the dump. Yep, we went to the dump! Shout out to Valerie Waldvogel for styling, providing amazing models, and securing the most wondrous of locations: aka the Glendale Dump for her new monthly styled sessions “What I See Shoot” aimed at photographers on every leg of their journey from noobies with their first dslr to more seasoned, professional photographers.
(Hmm what seasoning would I be? Am I in the Cumin stage of pro photography or a little more Paprika?)
Valerie used this session to provide education and experience to a group she taught throughout the afternoon , and to just boost camaraderie with all of us- be it on on manual mode with our own photography businesses or first ‘real’ camera. The shoot was a reminder to challenge oneself - find beauty in any situation, any location. I had a great afternoon meeting everyone in my group, folks in other groups, and just enjoying the warm sunshine through the lens.
Getting out and practicing and playing isn’t something you ever ‘get too good’ for. Creative meet ups like this one Valerie organized keep the passion alive!
Always learning, always experimenting, always evolving!
