Best Nine is back! The IG tool that evaluates and creates a new image from your most liked feed photos of last year. Go to 2017bestnine.com, a website that sets up & collages your most responded to images of last year. If your a crazy IG fan like me with more than 5 feeds you can have mashing them all into one image as I did myself last year (you will have to use Layout IG own collager or your own editing software)

Hannah's senior session captured a third of my top nine all on her own! This gorgeous session at golden hour was a definite hit with a poised color guard spinner as posh and prepared as Hannah!

Proms took another section of the Senior Best Nine- individual sessions like Mason's epic pose (middle) Or Station Camp Senior Prom mini sessions where one of the party goers I met up with was stylish Natalie (top) or the second mini session for Beech's senior prom with Kendall, Savanah, and Sarah (bottom).

My girl, my muse took the last third with images from our Phoenix Mural adventure in formal gown, as well as images from her sweet sixteen birthday in New York at New Years time!

I fall in love with every project I am a part of- I am become emotional and professionally invested in capturing the memories of every client! Most family and senior sessions have full session galleries up and ready to view in less than 3 weeks. I always offer a 24 hour social media sneak peek to share with anyone you wish!

To look through portfolios and really consider what you want your family or senior images to look like- a photographers website or printed materials should show you what level of work to expect from them!
What you see is what you get so find the style that perfectly matches what you want!
Budget so that you do not have to hire one whose photos you do not LOVE. Why? Few couples hang the graduation cake or cap and gown above the mantle, fewer still hand those items down to children and grandchildren.

Photos memorizing your priceless moments are what you get to share and remember by as the years go by- they are treasures!


Ask yourself: Is it worth it to get a bargain on photos if one is unhappy with the photos? Does the photographer have real client testimonials on view on their website & trusted sites like Google? How many sessions will that person photograph that day- is my session a priority? Is getting "free" photos worth it if I am unhappy with them or they are poor quality- or worse they are never delivered? Are prints available on my online gallery or do I have to go to a poor quality pharmacy to print them?

Our first location was a park &campground where Angela had some special memories! She actually was there to celebrate an elementary school field trip in the past as well as camping there before. It was a beautiful spot along the Old Hickory Lake in Mt Juliet, Tn with a sweet beach and gorgeous fall colour trees.

The only thing we did not find at the campground was a golden field- one of my favorite portrait locations for warm, glowy skin and bright, contrasty highlights. So we drove down the street a bit to a super glam spot- right behind a gas station! Some interesting details, haha, are just cropped out of frame. With a beauty like Angela however, all you see if her surrounded by soft buttery light.

The first thing you notice about Nashville Class of 2017 senior Aubreyel is her infectious, gorgeous smile. She is a smart, vivacious, and beauty with a strength that has pulled her through difficult times. I had a jaw ache from all the smiles and laughter after this fun session in Cumberland Park downtown! Aubreyel dedicated her session to her mom, who her sister and her recently lost to breast cancer. A tragedy like that would be difficult to endure to say the least especially in the flurry of activity that a senior year involves. This lady knows her mom is watching over her, and beams that love and warmth bright enough for her to see in heaven. Nothing embodies fight like a girl like refusing to let anything steal the joy of moms legacy!

Two seniors this chose the same favorite verse! Both are outstanding people who are true to the William Shakespeare quote:

Emily is planning to attend college at Carson Newman University, in Global Education

The summer after graduation she will be working & traveling to prepare for college, and as always, will be active in theatre, reading and writing! Don't you love her vintage 'keyboard' ;)

What was your biggest fear or worry about prior to the photo shoot?

I felt like I was going to look uncomfortable and awkward in every photo. The outcome was different. I enjoyed the photos and I had a fun time.

What is one piece of advice you have for other seniors preparing for their senior photography session?

It's not as awkward as you may think. Just be yourself and act natural.

Bryce is a 2017 senior planning to attend college at Wittenberg University in a Psychology; pre-seminary track. All of his activities are surrounded in music, at church, band camp, and even during vacation he is working on his Trombone or bass guitar. Faith and music are so important to him we actually held his portrait session at his first choice location- his church   St. Timothy Lutheran in Hendersonville! I love finding out locations FROM seniors, not because I am completely lazy because (I have a ton of favorite spots)

It is because I want this to be as MUCH about the senior as possible!

  

St Timothy’s prayer path, pictured below,  is a favorite spot at church for Bryce.

According to Lord of Life Lutheran in Minnesota “The prayer path is a profound devotional tool. It can be a source of healing, creativity, self-knowledge and connection with the holy. While I love that he thought his session was “pretty cool” ( this is sincerely the highest praise from a guy- I know its perhaps not the biggest or most favorite highlight of your year? HA!)
My favorite response from Bryce about his session is his advicefor other seniors preparing for their senior photography session- to “Just say, "yes, mom". It's makes life much easier”

Excellent! This young man is so funny, talented, and wise!

Ricky is a v hip city senior, with an feed of intelligent instag tags like "the search for something more" and "The message is simple but it ain't easy". His easy going fun personality made portraits a blast at one of my favorite versatile spots Cumberland Park. We spent more time navigating the hectic Beyonce at Nissan Stadium parking situation than photographing because he was ready and attentive- and always GQ. Ricky's sister even helped photograph some BTS and Instagram portraits while we were out!

Station Camp Marching Band Invitational 2017 | Gallatin Tennessee | Anjeanette Photography Seniors Phoenix Arizona

25 Dynamic Marching Bands...

... competed a few weeks ago at Sumner county's own Station Camp High School. The marching invitational is sponsored and run by the Station Camp Thundering Herd under the direction of Jim Reed, and The SC Band Boosters. In addition to the hard work of parents and vendors, this invitational would be impossible without the hundreds of hours put in by the Thundering Herd band students, led by Drum Majors Brian Mason and Ashley Leininger. Frankly, it was a brutally hot day, yet the bands performed artistically & wonderfully despite heat advisory warnings. Band kids are TOUGH! Marching bands condition long hours in the middle of the day through the summer holiday months to prepare- but I have to say I was so impressed at how effortless they made it look to carry several pounds of weight, doing intricate choreographed performances in 100 plus degrees.

Tennessee cowboy Hunter is a class of 2017 senior who works at one of the top horseback riding destinations in Middle Tn- Juro stables. Hunter wanted to incorporate his passion for the outdoors and adventures at the job he loves with his favorite folks- a lot of whom have 4 legs!

 

This Senior Sunday session was the day after a large stormy afternoon with heavy rain. One just never knows what the Tennessee slate summer weather will bring because we could not have been blessed with a more gorgeous and sunny day! I feel like I had a mini vacation hiking in the woods with Hunter and the beautiful Maggie.

This image of the beautiful stables landscape was a popular one on my Instagram feed- what a fantastic friendship!

It was great meeting again with Franklin Tn Senior Briana, a few weeks after her sisters wedding! I was blessed enough to have gotten to know her as her big sister Danielle's maid of honor when I photographed the Belmont and Cheekwood wedding in Nashville. I met Jayla Palmerin Hendersonville Tn a long while ago, then recently got to join forces with her a few months after she graduated a year early from high school to explore fashion & fairytales, while making her some pretty epic artistic senior portraits.  There is an amazing future ahead of this girl, there is a very amazing NOW happening indeed. For this shoot we collaborated on an adventurous artistic idea of fairytales and daydreams....as seniors prepare to embark in the so called 'real world' I feel like it is so important to keep a hold of dreams and magic even in an adult world. We talked about visions for a fashion focused artistic photo shoot where creativity and breaking boundaries- I would love for more adventures with Jayla and other seniors where we really try different things and just have fun!

Jayla began acting at 9, and has always loved it. She has been in several feature films, her most recent being "Remember The Goal", a film about a cross country team, in which she played the role of Shelby. I brought the camera gear and smoke bombs and Jayla herself styled and did her own MUHA with an assist from mom Melissa!

Most of the photos in this session were edited with VSCO and tweaks.

This spot close to Manchester Tn was as close to Heaven as can be, right here in Tennessee! Visit a waterfall today-please remember to take out everything you bring in...if I can carry light stands, cameras, and gear you can totally carry out your chip bags and pop bottles. It was s ad to see all the garbage folks left behind.

I sought Jayla out because I wanted the opportunity to work with her as well as to explore a personal project for myself. As a fine artist who paints sometimes the instant gratification of setting up and photographing is so fast its exhilarating. The ideas and collaboration are front ended, with the shoot going relatively fast. About half of the creativity comes in the editing process for me. I wanted the chance to combine my two worlds of painting and photography, to slow down and develop the fairytale dreams I was thinking of further.

 

I spend decent amounts of time researching and learning about photography. I am an eager student of life in general, and hope to always be. Its easy when your studying something your love! I think if I could possibly "learn everything" about photography I would lose all passion for it...boring! So I try to continue making paintings and art for myself to explore artistic purposes and well, just practice! The amount of information as to why personal projects are important is pretty overwhelming but I recommend Episode 232 of Sprouting Photographer, with weekend wisdom by Skip Cohen, interview with Vincent Laforet and this Petapixel article for more concise explanations about WHY.

These images were shot on my 5DM2 & 5DM3 with 85mm, 16mm, and 70-200mm lens. We used natural light for most of the moments, a gold reflector for a few photos. For some dramatic photos Calumet strobes with Paul Buff vagabonds/Cyber Sync transmitters on Cheetah collapsible stands. Can't forget those epic Enola Gaye smoke bombs! I am a little obsessed with them and hope to do MANY more smoke bomb fashion sessions!

Violin and viola musician Olivia had already graduated high school when we met at Amulet Farm for her senior pictures portrait session last month! She finished the last of her home school studies in December, and was leaving right from our senior session for college registration. A passionate and intelligent young lady, she loves the instrumental arts and plans to study Interior Designer and get her real estate license after graduating. Olivia said she learns the most when the teacher uses visual ways of teaching and shows what to do. as well as when shetake notes and practice. I had her play for me while we were taking the second set of portraits in field behind Amulets barn, on the antique sofa. I can tell you the practicing Olivia did paid off as I was treated to a classical solo piece, and instantly saw Olivia relax, laugh, and become confidant as she played- it shows in her photos! Music is so powerful. Not surprisingly after playing for me I took her favorite photo of the session below.

This was shot with my Canon 5DM3, 70-200 lens, and a gold reflector. It was our first really warm week in Hendersonville, Tn and we had to take reflector breaks so we didn't sunburn lovely Olivia!

I asked Olivia if she could go anywhere for a day, where would she go, and she answered somewhere exotic with a lot of nature and wild life.

What I was most looking forward to in senior pictures was a fun easy photographer, and that's what I got. I don't think there was a least favorite part tho. I enjoyed it all. -Olivia
