Ben Class of 2020 Shadow Mountain High | Paradise Valley Senior | Anjeanette Photography Az

Awesome senior portrait session and awesome conversation. Great meeting up with Shadow Mountain Matador Ben for his senior session this month! We checked out the Scottsdale Civic Center plaza area with the incredible Contemporary Art Museum, a very, VERY, green grassy quad, and one of my favorites for golden honey light- the parking garage with an amazing view of historic Olde Towne Arizona! I met Ben a few years ago through the SMHS Marching band, where he is an accomplished trumpet player. Ban's band is a fantastic organization where kids learn, laugh, and find a home with music. For this year's Band Senior banners we designed custom posters on vinyl to hang in the stadium. We went for epic and determined expressions on blue to partially match their show theme of space- and it was no surprise to me when the Marching Matadors qualified in State Competition to moved onto Super States! During his session, I enjoyed chatting about cameras and gadgets, and hearing about Ben's adventures in New York with his family, his music, and GCU plans for the future! A bright future ahead for this sharp kid!

Soccer Matadors | Shadow Mountain High Sports Banners and portraits | Anjeanette Photography

I had such a great time designing custom Senior banners for the Shadow Mountain High Varsity Soccer ladies! I met up with the entire team for individual and group team photos on the field for SMHS, and then just the seniors had an exclusive portrait session where I captured several images to combine for their individual senior banners to hang in the stadium on game days. This PVSD school also wanted a large 36x48" team banner to recognize the Varsity & Jv teams. Dynamic student-athletes- dynamic sports banners! I love shooting action events for Deer Valley and Paradise Valley school district as well, but there is something so amazing about classic and edgy portrait photography to highlight the hard work and commitment that goes into extracurriculars like sports and band that I just love. these students work HARD, they deserve to be celebrated! Go Matadors!

Jake Class of 2020 | Roosevelt Row | Phoenix Senior grad portraits Anjeanette Photography Peoria Az

Jake is just really effortlessly cool- like a little bit fashionable B0RNS, a little bit rock n roll- and classical pianist twist. Had a fantastic time shooting his senior portraits in downtown Phoenix at BeCoffee and hitting all the new the RoosRow murals. Awesome backdrop for an awesome guy!

His mom Kerry is an accomplished photographer as well, (check out Native SKy on IG) and we had a blast walking around posing him and setting off Enola Gaye Smoke bombs. How GQ IS this guy??? Great session Jake- thanks for choosing me as your senior photographer!

Took a few days off for the Project Lunacy photography conference sponsored by Shutter Magazine & Shutterfest created by Salvatore Cincotta Photography. There is always more to learn and new ways to grow by challenging your work as a photographer and artist through photography education, connecting with vendors, and networking with other professionals. I brought my own gear, but everyone also had an opportunity to use the Profoto B10 & B10 Plus - and while I love my Flashpoints it was nice to experiment with some other industry leaders in off-camera flash.

I had the chance to spend the first day in small groups at the Superstition Mountains with Sal himself, as well as ProPhoto reps and instructors, then spent day two soaking up Photoshop knowledge and gel lighting tips with instructor David Byrd. A fantastic way to get reinspired and amped up for part two of the fall & holiday season- and cannot WAIT to hone new techniques in this springs Senior season!

Deer Valley Unified School District Marching Band invitational 2019 | ANJEANETTE PHOTOGRAPHY

The 2019 Band Invitational was such a success! Beautiful evening, beautiful music. Love seeing all the kids from all the awesome Deer Valley schools cheer each other on! Regardless of what happens on the field of competition, the high school marching bands of Deer Valley Unified School District- and all marching bands really, are comrades. they lift each other up, they cheer for each other, they applaud solos and get excited about guard tosses and intricate dot maneuvers. Marching band is more than just a sport- and yes its a sport look it up- it’s a team-building experience that positively leads young people and teaches them to be leaders. Go band!

Athlete Rylie visited her favorite state Arizona for epic senior pictures this month while on a whirlwind tour of gymnastic competitions and clinics across the Southwest. She is expected to excel at a top level in all areas of the demanding sport, but she says her favorite parts are uneven bars, balance beam. Her hard work and training were really evident in every effortless movement from walking, to posing, to leaping on top of a mountain barefoot she made it look so easy! A fun session full of smiles and grace!

There is just something so epic about being enveloped in an aesthetic cloud of colour!

Long-time staple of the extreme sports and paintball worlds, smoke grenades took off as stunning photo props several years ago. And the products colours, consistency, and length of time you get to shoot while one release keeps getting more awesome!

It's important that my seniors keep in mind that I have to follow important safety rules when using them- they fall into the same category as fireworks so I need to be sure to only use them in seasons when it is legal to use fireworks. In Phoenix, it is legal to set off novelty fireworks such as sparklers or smoke bombs in safe areas- like asphalt or concrete away from flammables. They can stain so keeping them away from garments or surfaces that are vulnerable (parking lots are perfect for smoke grenades) Regardless of the season or time of year I never use them in natural areas near grass, trees, etc- it's Arizona and basically almost always dry. I have used them on rocks if there is no brush, weeds, or sticks of any kind within a 100-foot radius. They are also expensive- they kind I use puts out a LOT of gorgeous amazing smoke and colour- but at $12 each for approximately 60-90 seconds we have to make every second of them count, and I only offer one per session if it is in an appropriate area.

Fantastic Summer senior session with avid hiker and naturalist Dylan last week at White Tanks Mountain Park! Dylan is a photographer too so we had a great time talking shop and getting fun images in the mountains. Like my family Dylan and his visited and feel in love with Arizona, and couldn’t wait to get here among the wild cacti and adventure. Have a fantastic senior year in Phoenix Dylan!

For small photography sessions (5 folks and under) the White Tanks Rangers are very friendly and accommodating with a small fee and just breath taking views and trails. Be careful of the waterfall area in the hot months- if there is any water in the small basin at the bottom there are so many bees! Leave the area and them, ah, “be” because we need those guys and nobody wants to end a hike with a thousand stings.

Rising seniors Class of 2020 and graduating 2019 got together for fun Prom2K19 downtown Phoenix Arizona at the Steele Indian Park. Later this group grabbed some corndogs at Sonic then headed off to dance at Wrigley Mansion!

Another reason I just can’t resist using BOTH beautiful kinds of light at my portrait sessions- I love the creamy artistic natural light looks but also oh my, oh my those dramatic skies!

That sky ain’t photoshopped folks- its just able to show off its blues when I light the subject, lovely Carly, with an off camera flash :)

I LOVE it when seniors have a unique spot picked out- someplace they love and want to incorporate into their session. Custom sessions are pretty much my favorites because they always showcase the seniors personality and style- and hey thats why I actively pursue (or just nag) seniors to choose their location adventure! Had such a great time meeting up with Faith and her folks down on Hermitage Square for her high school senior portrait session! Downtown Phoenix is an adventure of colours, and great photo textures- and sometimes adventures in finding parking spaces!! But Faith’s smiles lit the city up brighter than the sunshine :)
