Ashley did such an amazing job at her Senior Portrait session a few weeks ago! Her classic beauty and gorgeous smile made my job so easy-with the backdrop of the Anthem Community Park waterfalls we had an easy time capturing fantastic portraits to commemorate her senior year of high school.

Such a great, fun session with sparkling Carly!! Don’t her big eyes make you want to sing? Wonderful high school graduation senior session on the top of Peoria Az’s little Eastwing Mountain overlook with the bright Class of 2019 choir kid! So happy I got to meet Carly and her family, so excited to see what adventures this star takes through graduation and beyond!!

Another reason I just can’t resist using BOTH beautiful kinds of light at my portrait sessions- I love the creamy artistic natural light looks but also oh my, oh my those dramatic skies!
That sky ain’t photoshopped folks- its just able to show off its blues when I light the subject, lovely Carly, with an off camera flash :)
I love Nicole’s excited and fun energy! Her bright personality made her session so much fun- we got to see a side of Papago park not everyone does after the rain this spring-but she was the the brightest star in the park! Thanks for jumping on top of a mountain in heels and a prom dress surrounded by smoke grenades by the way!! (I promise she was safe- the rock creates an optical illusion of being above the valley, and her mom and I kept her safe)

I have had the pleasure of knowing her a few years now as she has lead my daughters band, and can I just say this kid is so dang cool! Lauren is a leader, a musician, and a haircut trendsetter- but she’s also the kindest, coolest, and funniest person! Loved out session down on roosevelt Row in Phoenix- we visited all the murals and lite them up with Lauren’s smile and some smoke bombs! Can’t wait to read all about her future adventures!!!
The splashes of colour and city vibe have def been the most popular spots this high school senior portrait session season! We are so blessed to live in a vibrant fun city with so many neat spots- and Mikaela rocked them all! From Roosevelt Row to Grand ave this Arizona girl stunned in her graduation photo session!
We had some help from Mikaleas brother Aaron- he manned the Ice Light on a fushia setting to create the zig zag halo behind her head for this photo!
Pa rum pum pum pum, Caylon killed it at her senior session! What a groaner of a lead in joke amiright? But seriously, she rock it, slayed, and kicked its ass- what an amazing portrait session Caylon!!! You are as sweet and funny as you are beautiful!

I was planning a session with a senior and her mom recently when a somewhat touchy subject came up. The portrait company your "school 'forces' you to use". Not my words, but I think that's how it feels to a lot of seniors. "We have to use that company" and to get your formal, traditional tux & drape or cap & gown image in the yearbook you may have to! The portrait company is not a grim and malicious entity, however. I offer a solution- do both! Get the formal and yearbook image secured- then get the styled session you WANT.
...but is it IG worthy?
What happens is the company approaches the school, and both the school and the company profit from your purchases. Yep, its a good old fashion school spirit fundraiser so go ahead and participate! They publish the yearbooks so they get to say what goes in it. It's a great deal for simple economical images for everyone. That's really ok, its a business like any other, and as a photographer who worked for such a company for years I get it and have no ill will towards the 'competition'. Because I think you should get both, and I do not think it IS competition. I think all of our collective images are valuable memories for you. To me though, your modern senior shoot out os so much more than JUST a business...
So, maybe just those few formal photos are enough for some seniors. But if you have been pouring over magazines, eagerly going through your friends Instagram, and Snapchatting with filters maybe you want more.

Prom mini sessions with friends, combined sessions, editorial Vanity Fair and Vogue looks...what do you want to do with your custom senior portrait session?
For one thing, the formal images are classic. Your grandmother got them, your older sister got them. Some schools have composites of high school senior portraits lining the walls from the early 1920's. That's a wow from me! It's pretty amazing to go look at those hallways which literally have entire family generations represented. These are amazing heirloom photographs everyone should have.
When you visit the school's portrait company, or sometimes when they come to you, there is an option to also get a few extra poses in casual wear. These can be fun and enough for those who do not enjoy taking photos. For those who want more, the school's photographers just do not have the time to spend creating a portfolio of incredible, unique, kick-ass photos.
Why not have both?
Not being salty, its just true. I DO think you should enjoy and get prints of those classic cap & gown images but beyond that they have a limited number of minutes with you on the SAME basic backdrops as everybody else. Why stop with that when you can ALSO have a fun-filled, FIRE of a session. It's like a modeling shoot that is ALL ABOUT YOU!
Well you, mom, BF, your dog & guitar- who ever and whatever you want to bring along! There are classic photos for mom and the family- and you will love them more the older you get but they are just not NOW. So do you want more?
Do you want a full fashion session that is completely tailored to YOU? Multiple outfits, an array of handpicked locations, stunning fashion or urban looks, expressing your personality with more than just one prop, fluid hot posing and movement, smiles and fun plus serious slay expressions. So much more than stand here, look here, and fake smiles.
Why have an extra photo session just for you? Because, duh.
And just to prove that both sessions are vital- here are my senior portraits! I did not have the option to have my own session all about me. Heck yeah I regret it! And I DEF did not want the white background with the big 3d numbers- it wasn't even cool way back in the 90s either. That hair tho ;) The school's contracted photographer only had less than 15 mins to spend on my whole senior session :/
Hilarious! We did not have a fast fun way to share images with friends- we had exchange wallets printed! We signed them for each other too :) I mean I can still have these made for you...but of course, your sneak peek images are IG ready!

I fall in love with every project I am a part of- I am become emotional and professionally invested in capturing the memories of every client! Most family and senior sessions have full session galleries up and ready to view in less than 3 weeks. I always offer a 24 hour social media sneak peek to share with anyone you wish!
To look through portfolios and really consider what you want your family or senior images to look like- a photographers website or printed materials should show you what level of work to expect from them!
What you see is what you get so find the style that perfectly matches what you want!
Budget so that you do not have to hire one whose photos you do not LOVE. Why? Few couples hang the graduation cake or cap and gown above the mantle, fewer still hand those items down to children and grandchildren.
Photos memorizing your priceless moments are what you get to share and remember by as the years go by- they are treasures!
Ask yourself: Is it worth it to get a bargain on photos if one is unhappy with the photos? Does the photographer have real client testimonials on view on their website & trusted sites like Google? How many sessions will that person photograph that day- is my session a priority? Is getting "free" photos worth it if I am unhappy with them or they are poor quality- or worse they are never delivered? Are prints available on my online gallery or do I have to go to a poor quality pharmacy to print them?
