As a photographer specializing in capturing the essence of the Class of 2024 through senior pictures and graduation portraits, I've had the privilege of witnessing incredible stories unfold in front of my lens. Liesa and Caden's journey is one that tugs at the heartstrings and makes you say “awwwww”. On the last day of 2023, Liesa and Caden celebrated their Class of 2024 journey with a portrait session from Anthem to the vista of Sunset Point. Even though it was a little overcast these two radiated energy and optimism. Their portraits capture not just a moment in time, but the perseverance and spirit that will see them conquer whatever comes their way. ✨
COSPE “Teenage Emotions”
These two remarkable individuals first crossed paths as percussionists in the State Champion Mountain Ridge Marching Band and Wind Ensemble. From the cadence of their drumbeats to the harmonious notes they created together, it was evident that their connection extended beyond the musical realm. As their senior year approached, we decided to freeze these moments of camaraderie in time with a special BFF senior portrait session.
Anthem Park and Sunset Point provided the perfect canvas for our photographic adventure, where we went from a giant sky sized softbox of a soft cloudy day to being bathed in the Arizona sunset. The landscape served as a backdrop, mirroring the journey these two have shared throughout their high school years.
Navigating the waterfalls of Anthem, we captured nervous giggles to genuine laughter and shared memories that define Liesa and Caden's relationship. Later we drove up to the edge of the sky above the Phoenix Valley to Sunset Point surrounded by the Bradshaw Mountains.
To Liesa and Caden, as you stand on the brink of new adventures, may these graduation portraits be a cherished reminder of the incredible relationship and lifetime memories you've built together. To the parents reading this, I hope this post inspires you to celebrate the unique friendships and relationships that have enriched your child's high school experience.

Grab your favorite drink and get comfy, friends! I can’t wait to share Kenna’s incredible downtown senior portrait session in Phoenix, AZ with you. This session was extra special because Kenna had just moved to Anthem, AZ when the COVID-19 epidemic hit, making her transition to a new high school at Boulder Creek pretty challenging. But she faced it all with such grace and strength.
Kenna showed up with the most fabulous hairstyle, thanks to her mom, who is a kick-ass hairstylist. Her hair was styled to perfection, adding a touch of glam to every shot. We started the session with a mix of posed and candid shots. Kenna’s smile lit up the camera, and her candid shots, where she was walking around downtown, were pure gold. But the cinematic portraits were my absolute favorite. Kenna looking off into the distance, lost in thought, created such a cool vibe. It’s like capturing a moment from a movie!

Our adventure began amidst the urban charm of downtown Phoenix. The city provided the perfect backdrop for Kenna's senior pictures – a fusion of modernity and tradition. We explored the colorful murals that adorned the walls as we strolled through the streets. The energy of the city blended seamlessly with the excitement of capturing these precious moments.
From the bustling streets, we transitioned to a more serene setting, capturing Kenna against the iconic golden Phoenix skyline. The graduation portraits radiated a sense of accomplishment and anticipation for the future. The city, with its towering buildings and endless possibilities, mirrored the wide-open path that lies ahead for Kenna. It was a beautiful juxtaposition – the urban landscape symbolizing the journey from adolescence to adulthood.
We explored the bustling streets of downtown Phoenix, with its vibrant murals and urban chic spots. Kenna’s outfits were on point, and she blended right into the city’s stylish backdrop. One of the highlights of our session was when we went up to a parking garage surrounded by skyscrapers. The cityscape was breathtaking, but what caught my eye was a small puddle from a rare Arizona rainstorm. I was so excited! We played with reflections, and I captured Kenna with her arms raised to the sky, reflected perfectly in the water. It was magical!
During the session, Kenna shared stories about her move and how she adapted to her new school. It wasn’t easy, but she made it through with determination and a positive attitude. Her resilience was inspiring, and it showed in her photos. Every image told a part of her story – a young woman who faced challenges head-on and emerged stronger.
We took a break for some fun and candid moments. At one point, Kenna spotted a street musician and started dancing to the music. Her spontaneous dance moves were a blast to capture. It’s those unplanned moments that add so much personality to a session. We were all laughing, and Kenna’s joy was contagious. These candid shots are some of my favorites because they show her true spirit.
As the sun began to set, we took advantage of the golden hour. The warm, soft light added a beautiful glow to Kenna’s portraits. The skyscrapers in the background, bathed in the sunset’s golden hues, created a stunning contrast with Kenna’s silhouette. She looked absolutely radiant, and the photos turned out breathtaking.
Kenna, your downtown senior session was amazing! Your energy and enthusiasm made every moment special. Keep shining and chasing your dreams. Your strength and resilience will take you far, and I can’t wait to see all the incredible things you’ll achieve. You’re a star! 🌟

Emily’s video is ready!!! Yay! That means….it’s delivery day for her gallery!!! What a star- this Varsity Mountain Ridge Cheerleader’s awesome downtown Phoenix rooftop sesh was amazing. This session really shows off her spunk and smile. I like to do multiple sets from each session on Insta to show off multi aspects of each seniors personality, their different outfits, and the way the changing light hits and glows those last two hours of the day. During #seniorpicture #MarchMadness (the busiest senior season in Arizona) it’s hard to stay up to date with many shoots and edits and videos I am working on (sometimes at the same time?!?!) …but it is REALLY hard to wait when you have a senior as awesome and cool as Ash 🧡 Just wait until you see her sweet freckles glow in the next set *swoon*

Brandy lit up downtown with her soft sweet smile! We visited Roosevelt Row, and explored Central Phoenix hunting for the city’s fabulous street art for senior pictures full of colour and life just like this girl <3 I met Brandy via her high school band where this multitalented musician plays F Horn and Mellophone in marching- she is amazing!
I adore a good spooky raven, but her laugh in this photo is irresistible!

Sometimes guys are hesitant to take senior photos, not sure what they will do or ow to stand or feel awkward- but they can be the best sessions! I always tell them don’t worry I’ll tell you how to pose- and after a few minutes we get comfortable and they start killing it. It’s not weird or dumb to get portraits guys. Its just a fun as you make it- you will look awesome, and whats the harm in expressing yourself and feeling great about yourself?
Now I would never know if this guy had any hesitations about portraits because Jacob was killing it with great looks all around downtown like a model! He took to it very naturally and looks amazing because of that willingness to get into it. Rocked it, crushed it, killed it, swag, sheeesh anyway you say it Jacob did it! What an awesome session! This guy hits different and def has senior guy style!

Class of 2021, like the seniors before you, so much has altered what was supposed to be one of the best years of your life. The celebration of friends & milestones after 12 years of hard work.
Of course, there is SO much more to come and this isn't going to stop all the awesome adventures that your life will bring. But it's hard- this is HARD NOW, a disappointing way to start your big year.
You don't have to miss out on every part of senior year! Stay connected with friends on social media, make memories, research colleges, or post-grad adventures & plan your senior pictures!
YES, you can still enjoy a fun senior photos experience that is safe, socially distanced, and still vibes epic! I can help!

Cap and Gown sessions are some of my favorites. This year they are so bittersweet. This year...whew.
I am sure you are sick of hearing that you are resiliant, that you will overcome, that you will be stronger for it.
That is all true- but honestly? This year sucked. And this was supposed to be THE year right? You worked hard for 12 years and certainly deserved better. You should be celebrated and cheered. Cheering from the internet just doesn’t feel the same. I def feel a little lame typing encouragement from the couch instead of jumping up and down in a school auditorium or stadium- but I really really DO believe in you.
This class, this generation that won’t meekly sit by and ignore injustice. This generation that gives a you-know-what about each other and the earth and everything. So yeah maybe I sound like a rambling mom cheerleader but damn, boy- you rock! All of you!!! I do think you will prevail above and beyond complacent survival. Yeah yeah surviving is important. I don’t want just surviving for any of you. I want you to thrive. You will be stronger because of everything that has been and to bring better things out of these ashes.

Wrestling champion Sierra knows all about the grind of a tough season- the determination and grit to go through the fire and make the podium as a champion. this year, it wasn’t just the wrestling mat she conquered, her 2020 senior year proved to be a challenge she persevered with the most of the world. Only senior year did not end with the celebration or ceremony they deserved. Regardless of canceled proms, graduations, and important events to recognize a momentous time is a person's life Sierra and her classmates have shown their resilience to face uncertainty and pressure to persevere. The circumstance changed but the accomplishments haven't! Congratulations Sierra on all of your hard-won achievements, diploma, and awards!! Now go conquer the world!

I am so thankful Maria and I finally got to get together for a safe in the sun social distancing senior session before she heads off to Rice University! The Class of 2020 has had a wild ride navigating a whole new world of pandemics and epidemics. Marias is ready to debate and lead the Z Generation to victory!
Normally of course we would already be way past senior season! I really wanted to extend it and make some extra spots after all these young folks have had to deal with this unique and challenging year from fears for health and safety, to raising their voices for equality. After everything else they didn’t have to miss out on senior portraits. The best is yet to come have no doubt seniors. Right now you are shaping the future... I cannot wait to see how you change the world for the better. But I will wait day by day bc obvs thats how time works hahaha!
Maria had her sunrise session last week - when the desert morning air is a little cooler and the sun is brighter! She brought music, books, laughter, and all the smiles! One of a kind, real-life superhero Brooke not only nonchalantly rocks a 55lb+ tenor drum set during marching band season- she also loves all the fishes and will be majoring in Marine Biology in the fall. Brooke had been planning her senior pictures for close to a year- she knew since her junior year she wanted to do them at the Scottsdale Odysea Aquarium and carefully got her ideas ready. Brooke will be a part of the Mariane Biology program at the University of Hawaii- her acceptance was a win for UofH because this young lady is a hard-working and bright kid- she finished in the top 10% of a graduating class of over 600 and was the recipient of many awards & cords from her school in academics and band. We started talking about plus planning her session in the summer of '19. We had no idea that a few months after the new year began all the things that would cancel priceless and irreplaceable events in her senior year of school. Much less postpone her portraits. Thankfully businesses like the Aquarium were able to quickly reopen with new safety procedures to protect the animals, staff, and visitors when the state reopened after the Cobid19 pandemic shut down. The class of 2020 missed a lot. So much h that cannot ever be replaced. While the loss of special once in a lifetime pom and circumstance obviously pales in comparison to the losses of life and upheavals in our country from the disease and distress of a society unequal in it's care, liberty, rights, and compassion for people of color- it was still a loss that should not be taken lightly. Thankfully, senior portraits are one event seniors do not have to miss out on. While not every school will walk, and those that do have abbreviated telecast or social distancing ceremonies- a sense of celebration and closer is very possible in senior pictures. The Class of 2020 will have an amazing story to tell of perseverance and grit- and hopefully the triumph of taking care of each other with compassion and justice. Congratulations Brooke on your graduation, many honors, and acceptance into the college of your dreams! I can’t wait to see where your adventures take the new Jacques Cousteau!

What a year 2020 has been- and it is only March! WOW, when we were taking these we had no idea what was to come in the next few weeks! The worries were far away and spring break had just begun... So thankful I was able to go ahead with this long ago scheduled duo senior pictures session before Covid-19 social distancing quarantine began! So much uncertainty and worry. Despite all the challenges we are facing now and may face in the near future, memories of our most valuable moments are important- they are worth holding onto.
Kylie and Harrison are high school sweethearts who wanted their senior pictures taken together. We walked around the Phoenix Desert Botanical Gardens on a golden light filled afternoon, capturing portraits of each of them separately and together in the cactus blooms of spring. We had fun laughing and posing, and smiling in the bright sunshine. While some things may be uncertain in the immediate now, in the fall these two are headed to ASU and the Navy with bright futures ahead! Their bond and these moments will not be forgotten. Both families are good friends, so joint sessions together was an obvious choice for them, making sure to ask me for photos of them altogether.
Class of 2020 -Hang in there. No words can replace prom or the end of your school year, but know that there will be light at the end of this terrible tunnel we are in. The future is yours and you will ROCK whatever comes next.

The mountains called Julia! Something adventurous and unusual- so we took a road trip to Rock Springs and Sunset Point for epic views and sunkissed wind in the hair moments. Julia is one of the esteemed Drum Majors at O'Connor, who helped lead her band in their return to Super State competition this fall. This spring she is performing in Regional concert band performances and auditioning for college music programs as a flutist.
Rock Springs (otherwise known as the "Pie Rest Stop" had little surprises around every corner, cute vignettes set up for weddings and events, tiny caves, and a mountain top view in the back. As well as excellent cream pie according to Julia and her family! After a little while, we raced the sun to the long grasses and vista just north of Sunset Point rest stop. It is no wonder why this spot is a favorite for photographers around the valley and beyond- and it was the perfect place to capture senior portraits of Julia who loves nature and the wind in her hair. It was chilly, but the warm glow of a deep sunset kept us warm enough until just after blue hour when we were able to get amazing views and sunbursts into the sky. I have often driven by this spot and longed for a session there each time. So happy that Julia felt the call of the long golden grasses there too and chose me to get photos of this special time in her life- graduating high school!
Awesome senior portrait session and awesome conversation. Great meeting up with Shadow Mountain Matador Ben for his senior session this month! We checked out the Scottsdale Civic Center plaza area with the incredible Contemporary Art Museum, a very, VERY, green grassy quad, and one of my favorites for golden honey light- the parking garage with an amazing view of historic Olde Towne Arizona! I met Ben a few years ago through the SMHS Marching band, where he is an accomplished trumpet player. Ban's band is a fantastic organization where kids learn, laugh, and find a home with music. For this year's Band Senior banners we designed custom posters on vinyl to hang in the stadium. We went for epic and determined expressions on blue to partially match their show theme of space- and it was no surprise to me when the Marching Matadors qualified in State Competition to moved onto Super States! During his session, I enjoyed chatting about cameras and gadgets, and hearing about Ben's adventures in New York with his family, his music, and GCU plans for the future! A bright future ahead for this sharp kid!
Took a few days off for the Project Lunacy photography conference sponsored by Shutter Magazine & Shutterfest created by Salvatore Cincotta Photography. There is always more to learn and new ways to grow by challenging your work as a photographer and artist through photography education, connecting with vendors, and networking with other professionals. I brought my own gear, but everyone also had an opportunity to use the Profoto B10 & B10 Plus - and while I love my Flashpoints it was nice to experiment with some other industry leaders in off-camera flash.
I had the chance to spend the first day in small groups at the Superstition Mountains with Sal himself, as well as ProPhoto reps and instructors, then spent day two soaking up Photoshop knowledge and gel lighting tips with instructor David Byrd. A fantastic way to get reinspired and amped up for part two of the fall & holiday season- and cannot WAIT to hone new techniques in this springs Senior season!
