I’m here to help you navigate through this incredible year with a handy timeline and checklist to make sure you don’t miss a thing. Let’s dive into the must-dos for your senior year, from scheduling your senior portraits with me to marking those all-important yearbook dates and planning for special occasions like homecoming and prom.
Y’all, Senior year of high school is such an exciting time, filled with milestones, memories, and a lot to prepare for. I’m here to help you navigate through this incredible year with a handy timeline and checklist to make sure you don’t miss a thing. I remember being a first time senior parent and just barely making some of these dates despite my first senior being very organized and prepared- because you don’t know if you don’t know!
Let’s dive into the must-dos for your senior year, from scheduling your senior portraits with me to marking those all-important yearbook dates and planning for special occasions like homecoming and prom.
August - September: Kick Off the Year Right!
Get Organized: Start by getting a planner or calendar to keep track of important dates and deadlines. some schools provide them or great tracking apps.
Schedule Senior Portraits: One of the first things you’ll want to do is schedule your senior portraits with me. These photos are a major milestone, and we want to capture you at your best! Click here to book your session.
Schedule Yearbook Picture: You do need to make an appointment, usually with Dorian Studio or Grads, for the yearbook photo. No, you do not have to go to *JUST* the school yearbook photographer. BUT I THINK YOU’LL WANT TO DO BOTH! More about that here
Join Clubs and Activities: Get involved in school clubs and extracurricular activities. It’s a great way to make the most of your last year.
College Planning: Start researching colleges, preparing for the SAT/ACT, and planning college visits if you have not already. Remeber not every post graduation adventure has to be college! Take time to think about something you love doing, that you automatically go to and can do for hours without making yourself concentrate- it just feels natural and you get lost in it…then research places to further explore that interest. You really might be surprised what options are out there that do not involve a student loan. Colelege is fantastic, if it takes you to the path you want, or if you are not sure what that path is but know that classes excited you. But everyone has a different path and there are also amazing schools for music, art, mechanics, and other things that will help you find your passion and get you paid to do what you love too.
October - November: Capture the Moments
Homecoming: Homecoming is a special time, and you’ll want to capture it! Schedule a mini-session for homecoming photos. Trust me, these memories are worth it.
Yearbook Photos: Make sure you know the deadlines for your yearbook photos. Submit your senior portraits and any other required photos on time.
Start College Applications: Begin working on your college applications. Keep track of deadlines and make sure to get letters of recommendation from your teachers.
Senior Portraits: If you haven’t already, get your senior portraits done! We’ll create beautiful, timeless photos that you’ll cherish forever. Book your session here.
December - January: Mid-Year Checkpoint
Finalize College Applications: Complete and submit all your college applications. Double-check everything to make sure it’s perfect.
Holiday Photos: Consider scheduling a holiday-themed photo session with your friends or family. It’s a fun way to celebrate the season and make lasting memories.
Check Yearbook Deadlines: Make sure all your photos and entries for the yearbook are submitted. This includes senior quotes, baby photos, and any club or activity photos, and senior ads.
Cap and Gown: Order your cap and gown for graduation. It might seem early, but it’s better to be prepared.
Senior Portraits Reminder: If you still haven’t scheduled your senior portraits, now is the time! Don’t wait any longer to capture these special moments.
February - March: Focus on Fun
Plan for Prom: Start planning for prom. Schedule your prom photoshoot with me to ensure you get beautiful, professional photos of this unforgettable night.
Spring Break Plans: Make the most of your spring break. Whether you’re traveling or staying local, consider scheduling a fun photoshoot to capture your adventures.
Stay on Top of Schoolwork: Keep up with your studies. It’s easy to get distracted with all the fun events, but staying focused is key.
April - May: The Home Stretch
Prom Night: Enjoy your prom night to the fullest! Schedule a pre-prom photoshoot to capture you and your friends in your glamorous outfits.
Senior Activities: Participate in all the senior activities and events your school offers. These are moments you’ll treasure.
Prepare for Graduation: Make sure you have everything you need for graduation day. Check the dates and plan your family celebrations.
Final Senior Portraits: If you want a few last-minute senior photos in your cap and gown, schedule a quick session. It’s a wonderful way to wrap up your senior year.
June: Celebrate and Reflect
Graduation Day: This is your big day! Enjoy every moment and take plenty of photos with family and friends.
Thank You Notes: Send thank you notes to teachers, mentors, and anyone who helped you along the way.
Summer Fun: Celebrate your achievements over the summer. Plan trips, hang out with friends, and make the most of your time before college.

Alexis Class of 2022 | Anjeanette Photography Phoenix Senior Photographer
Alexis, from Estrella Foothills High School, wanted her senior portraits to be as unique and vibrant as she is. So, we decided to head downtown to Roosevelt Row. It’s the perfect spot with its artistic vibes and cool urban backdrop. Alexis came prepared with two sets of outfits—some chosen by her mom and others reflecting her own edgy style. Plus, she brought along her ukulele for some fun and creative shots with smoke grenades at sunset. Talk about an exciting mix!
We kicked things off in the heart of Roosevelt Row, where the street art and murals are nothing short of spectacular. Alexis rocked her mom-approved outfits, which were chic and classy, fitting right into the lively, colorful surroundings. The contrast between her outfits and the vibrant murals made for some stunning photos. She looked effortlessly stylish, her smile lighting up every frame. We had so much fun exploring different spots, finding new angles and backdrops that made each photo unique.
Switching things up, Alexis then donned her own edgy outfits. These were bold, expressive, and totally her. She looked amazing! Her confidence shone through as she posed with the urban art, blending right into the creative atmosphere of Roosevelt Row. These outfits brought out a different side of her personality, adding a cool, rebellious touch to the photos. And let’s not forget her ukulele! This was such a fun prop, adding a playful element to the shoot. We found some great spots where Alexis could strum a few tunes, looking like a rockstar against the urban landscape.
As the sun started to set, we moved to a spot perfect for the grand finale—the smoke grenade photos. This part was so exciting! Alexis pulled out her ukulele, and we got the smoke grenades ready. The colorful smoke swirling around her created an almost magical scene. The combination of the setting sun, the vibrant smoke, and Alexis with her ukulele was simply breathtaking. Each photo captured the essence of her creativity and free spirit. She looked incredible, with the setting sun casting a warm glow over everything, making the colors pop even more.
Throughout the session, Alexis was a natural in front of the camera. Her bubbly personality and enthusiasm made the whole process a joy. We laughed a lot, especially when we had to deal with a few unexpected challenges. At one point, a particularly bold pigeon decided to make a cameo in our shoot! Alexis took it all in stride, her laughter making for some candid, delightful shots.
Senior photos are such a special way to capture this pivotal time in life. For Alexis, these photos are more than just a celebration of her graduation; they’re a reflection of her journey, her passions, and her vibrant personality. Whether she was posing with street art, rocking her edgy outfits, or playing her ukulele amidst swirling smoke, each photo tells a part of her story.
For all the high school seniors and parents reading this, remember that senior photos should be a true reflection of who you are. Choose locations and outfits that mean something to you, and don’t be afraid to get creative! Alexis’s session is a perfect example of how much fun and meaningful senior photos can be when you let your personality shine through.
Looking back at the photos from that day, I can’t help but smile. Each image captures a different aspect of Alexis—from her stylish looks and confident poses to her playful side with the ukulele and smoke grenades. These photos are a celebration of who she is and all that she’s achieved. Alexis, you were an absolute star, and it was such a pleasure capturing these moments for you.
To all the seniors out there, make sure your photos show off who you are. Whether it’s a favorite hangout, a spot that inspires you, or an outfit that makes you feel amazing, let your senior photos be a true reflection of your unique journey. And most importantly, have fun with it! Your senior year is a time of celebration, and your photos should capture all the joy and excitement that comes with it.
And that’s a wrap! 📸✨ What an unforgettable session with Alexis. From the vibrant art of Roosevelt Row to the magical sunset with smoke grenades, it was a day filled with creativity, laughter, and unforgettable moments. Here’s to celebrating the end of high school and the amazing adventures ahead! Cheers to making memories that last a lifetime. 🌆🎸🎓
