Faithful Hendersonville Musician | Bryce Class of 2017 | Anjeanette Illustration Seniors Photography
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13
Bryce is a 2017 senior planning to attend college at Wittenberg University in a Psychology; pre-seminary track. All of his activities are surrounded in music, at church, band camp, and even during vacation he is working on his Trombone or bass guitar. Faith and music are so important to him we actually held his portrait session at his first choice location- his church St. Timothy Lutheran in Hendersonville! I love finding out locations FROM seniors, not because I am completely lazy because (I have a ton of favorite spots)
It is because I want this to be as MUCH about the senior as possible!
St Timothy’s prayer path, pictured below, is a favorite spot at church for Bryce.
According to Lord of Life Lutheran in Minnesota “The prayer path is a profound devotional tool. It can be a source of healing, creativity, self-knowledge and connection with the holy. Typically, the prayer path meditation involves three stages”. Learn more about it by clicking here or go ask at St. Timothy!
While I love that he thought his session was “pretty cool” ( this is sincerely the highest praise from a guy- I know its perhaps not the biggest or most favorite highlight of your year? HA!)
My favorite response from Bryce about his session is his advicefor other seniors preparing for their senior photography session- to “Just say, "yes, mom". It's makes life much easier”
Excellent! This young man is so funny, talented, and wise!
Fun fact: Bryce is the only one in his family that doesn't have brown eyes!
Ricky Class of 2017 | downtown Nashville Senior style setter | cumberland Park
Ricky is a v hip city senior, with an feed of intelligent instag tags like "the search for something more" and "The message is simple but it ain't easy". His easy going fun personality made portraits a blast at one of my favorite versatile spots Cumberland Park. We spent more time navigating the hectic Beyonce at Nissan Stadium parking situation than photographing because he was ready and attentive- and always GQ. Ricky's sister even helped photograph some BTS and Instagram portraits while we were out!
Enjoy this set!
Station Camp Marching Band Invitational 2017 | Gallatin Tennessee | Anjeanette Photography Seniors Phoenix Arizona
25 Dynamic Marching Bands...
... competed a few weeks ago at Sumner county's own Station Camp High School. The marching invitational is sponsored and run by the Station Camp Thundering Herd under the direction of Jim Reed, and The SC Band Boosters. In addition to the hard work of parents and vendors, this invitational would be impossible without the hundreds of hours put in by the Thundering Herd band students, led by Drum Majors Brian Mason and Ashley Leininger. Frankly, it was a brutally hot day, yet the bands performed artistically & wonderfully despite heat advisory warnings. Band kids are TOUGH! Marching bands condition long hours in the middle of the day through the summer holiday months to prepare- but I have to say I was so impressed at how effortless they made it look to carry several pounds of weight, doing intricate choreographed performances in 100 plus degrees.
Both The White House Connection and The Hendersonville Standard covered the event as well! click the papers names to see...

Courtney's Future Farmer Senior Session | Private Farm Gallatin Tn | Nashville photographer Anjeanette Illustration seniors
I was excited to meet up a few weeks ago with dedicated and motivated Future Farmers of America student Courtney- class of 2017!
Courtney and her pup Leo were bubbling- like literally bubbly- and charming! Surrounded by her multiple years worth collection of FFA shirts and awards or gable, you could see how important her role as her chapters treasurer is. Courtney judges many local events at fairs and beyond, yet she is just as comfortable playing in the creek and posing with tractors, Courtney's beautiful blue eyes sure lit up the warm late summer afternoon!
Hunter's Hendersonville Tn Senior Horseback Portrait Adventure | Class of 2017 | Photographer anjeanette Illustration Seniors
Tennessee cowboy Hunter is a class of 2017 senior who works at one of the top horseback riding destinations in Middle Tn- Juro stables. Hunter wanted to incorporate his passion for the outdoors and adventures at the job he loves with his favorite folks- a lot of whom have 4 legs!
This Senior Sunday session was the day after a large stormy afternoon with heavy rain. One just never knows what the Tennessee slate summer weather will bring because we could not have been blessed with a more gorgeous and sunny day! I feel like I had a mini vacation hiking in the woods with Hunter and the beautiful Maggie.

Franklin Tn Senior Briana | Nashville Senior Portraits | Artistic Photographer Anjeanette Illustration Photography
It was great meeting again with Franklin Tn Senior Briana, a few weeks after her sisters wedding! I was blessed enough to have gotten to know her as her big sister Danielle's maid of honor when I photographed the Belmont and Cheekwood wedding in Nashville. This smart and stunning lady is taking on photography, fashion, and many other pursuits- we met up to take her photos on her way back into town from another college campus visit. Can't wait to hear what she does next!
Just Being Jayla | Hendersonville Tn Senior Portraits | Artistic Photographer Anjeanette Illustration
I met Jayla Palmerin Hendersonville Tn a long while ago, then recently got to join forces with her a few months after she graduated a year early from high school to explore fashion & fairytales, while making her some pretty epic artistic senior portraits. There is an amazing future ahead of this girl, there is a very amazing NOW happening indeed. She already has so many accomplishments- look for big news from her soon! Brains and beauty abound in this 17 year old actor, writer, and blogger at one of the top teen blogs Just Being Jayla!
For this shoot we collaborated on an adventurous artistic idea of fairytales and daydreams....as seniors prepare to embark in the so called 'real world' I feel like it is so important to keep a hold of dreams and magic even in an adult world. We talked about visions for a fashion focused artistic photo shoot where creativity and breaking boundaries- I would love for more adventures with Jayla and other seniors where we really try different things and just have fun!
Jayla began acting at 9, and has always loved it. She has been in several feature films, her most recent being "Remember The Goal", a film about a cross country team, in which she played the role of Shelby. Remember The Goal will premier this August! For updates and showtimes check the official movie Facebook page here.
I brought the camera gear and smoke bombs and Jayla herself styled and did her own MUHA with an assist from mom Melissa!
This spot close to Manchester Tn was as close to Heaven as can be, right here in Tennessee! Visit a waterfall today-please remember to take out everything you bring in...if I can carry light stands, cameras, and gear you can totally carry out your chip bags and pop bottles. It was s ad to see all the garbage folks left behind.
Lots if waterfall info can be found at the state park website
I sought Jayla out because I wanted the opportunity to work with her as well as to explore a personal project for myself. As a fine artist who paints sometimes the instant gratification of setting up and photographing is so fast its exhilarating. The ideas and collaboration are front ended, with the shoot going relatively fast. About half of the creativity comes in the editing process for me. I wanted the chance to combine my two worlds of painting and photography, to slow down and develop the fairytale dreams I was thinking of further.
I spend decent amounts of time researching and learning about photography. I am an eager student of life in general, and hope to always be. Its easy when your studying something your love! I think if I could possibly "learn everything" about photography I would lose all passion for it...boring! So I try to continue making paintings and art for myself to explore artistic purposes and well, just practice! The amount of information as to why personal projects are important is pretty overwhelming but I recommend Episode 232 of Sprouting Photographer, with weekend wisdom by Skip Cohen, interview with Vincent Laforet and this Petapixel article for more concise explanations about WHY.
These images were shot on my 5DM2 & 5DM3 with 85mm, 16mm, and 70-200mm lens. We used natural light for most of the moments, a gold reflector for a few photos. For some dramatic photos Calumet strobes with Paul Buff vagabonds/Cyber Sync transmitters on Cheetah collapsible stands. Can't forget those epic Enola Gaye smoke bombs! I am a little obsessed with them and hope to do MANY more smoke bomb fashion sessions!

Hendersonville Tennessee Senior | Natalie | Anjeanette Illustration Photography
Senior Photos in Hendersonville Tn by Artistic Senior Picture Photographer Anjeanette Illustration Photography
Natalie approached me with a completely unique and hilariously fun idea to have her senior portraits made along Gallatin Road- she sent me a piece titled "20 Photos Of Nashville's Weird And Beautiful Gallatin Pike" from NPR written by none other than Mighty Joe Nolan (yep, that art guy & insomniac from The Scene!)
She had her favorite spots picked out so we had a BLAST! It was colourful in SO many ways-we laughed a lot and beautiful soul Natalie has portraits like no other!
This cool trumpeter's laugh is infections, and her freckles adorable- enjoy her postcards from Gallatin Pike!
Landscape mural by Bryan Deese beside Aaron Martin & Kristen Brubaker's Tiger mural, which was released in tandem for a show at the Basement East featuring Los Colognes and Erin Rae
The Dog Spot! The area all around this short strip of stores by the dalmatian wall is changing fast-and looking so cool! Sushi, hot chicken, juice bars and trendy boutiques....
Jerry's Market on Gallatin Pike doesn't have a webpage (that I could find) but its on the map with stunning artwork like these Mocking birds by Audie Adams

Hendersonville Tn Senior Pictures | Olivia's Senior Portrait Photoshoot | Artistic Photographer Anjeanette Illustration Photography
Violin and viola musician Olivia had already graduated high school when we met at Amulet Farm for her senior pictures portrait session last month! She finished the last of her home school studies in December, and was leaving right from our senior session for college registration. A passionate and intelligent young lady, she loves the instrumental arts and plans to study Interior Designer and get her real estate license after graduating. Olivia said she learns the most when the teacher uses visual ways of teaching and shows what to do. as well as when shetake notes and practice. I had her play for me while we were taking the second set of portraits in field behind Amulets barn, on the antique sofa. I can tell you the practicing Olivia did paid off as I was treated to a classical solo piece, and instantly saw Olivia relax, laugh, and become confidant as she played- it shows in her photos! Music is so powerful. Not surprisingly after playing for me I took her favorite photo of the session below.
I asked Olivia if she could go anywhere for a day, where would she go, and she answered somewhere exotic with a lot of nature and wild life.
So we jumped in the Station Camp Creek ;)
What I was most looking forward to in senior pictures was a fun easy photographer, and that's what I got. I don't think there was a least favorite part tho. I enjoyed it all. -Olivia
Prom Mini Session | Beech High | Hendersonville Senior Photographer Anjeanette Illustration Photography
It was a dark and stormy night...well not completely! Another rush of excited and gorgeous students headed toprom festivities! Beech High Hendersonville, TN had its Juinor & Senior Prom Saturday, and I was so happy to meet up with two sets of smiling faces! Caroline's Senior Session | Hendersonville Tn Senior Session | Anjeanette Illustration Photography
Hendersonville Tn concert musician Caroline is pursuing her musical dreams after accomplishing great things as a high school student, I was so excited to photographer her senior portraits and will be listening for her in the future!
Belmont University, College of Music
Caroline was her high school Drum Major, leading her marching season team on pep rallys, games, parades, and competition accomplishments including a Grand Champion at an Austin Peay Invitational. However, she expressed that her true passion was concert performance. She has had many first chairs and 1 ratings at bands assembled from the best of the best throughout the state of Tennessee. We met up first at Belmont, where dad David had connections that allowed us access into the gorgeous concert hall designed by the same artists who created Nashville's Schermerhorn Symphony Hall.
Over to Amulet Farm, Gallatin
I love the sweet owner at Amulet Farm, Jenny Towle, and her place has long been a favorite for photos. I was introduced to Jenny by Amy of And How! photography- look at that soft afternoon Golden Hour sun! Ahhhh, such a gorgeous and relaxing view of middle Tennessee and all its beauty!
Mikki's Senior Session | Hendersonville Tn Senior Pictures by Artistic Photographer | Anjeanette Illustration Photography
Senior Photos in Hendersonville Tn by Artistic Senior Picture Photographer Anjeanette Illustration Photography
She has brains, talent, beauty, and drive: Mikki is a fireball, with big dreams and the hard work, dedication, and ambition to achieve her goals. She has her college accepted and prepared for, and is finishing out her senior year at the top of her Saxophone Marching & Concert section and track and cross country teams!
Describing Mikki is hard because this young person is a spit fire. I sound so old right? It is just hard to pin down Mikki as just one thing or another because she is so many things! A photographer with passion excitement, Mikki has personal projects she is photographing which can be seen here, additionally she photographs for her church. Mikki has spoken at conventions like the VFW State Convention, because she is concerned about her world and a politically motivated young writer she will be representing Tennessee at the Voice of Democracy Essay Competition in Washington DC. Her mom told me she started running a few years ago to think and relax and realized she was motivated and talented enough for cross country and track. On top of it all she is a member of a her band as a saxophonist and that band schedule is no joke demanding- daily practices, weekends full of competitions and extra practices, concerts, sectionals, as well as volunteering her time with a middle school band.
I always ask seniors for favorite spots and ideal locations- because while I could just slap up one of my more generic backdrops and have lovely portraits that is just one element... I would much rather get their personalities in "the wild"- where they are comfortable and can relax and express themselves and their real interests! Mikki chose her school grounds, and don't you just love that Tennessee has school grounds that look like these? Fields of gold fauna surrounding the campus? Sure looks different from my high school surrounded by asphalt and concrete! We explored her track, cross country running routes through the trees, the stream running along side the gym, and even used the track and stadium for a set up. As the shoot progressed, I quickly stopped having to pose Mikki. Her mother and Ijust watched as she relaxed and took chances, which gave me more freedom to get creative with my shooting. I love it when this cycle of creativity gets started. What happens is we end up with amazing photos full of personality like these.
Watch her go- enjoy your senior year Mickie!!
Savannah & Toby Senior Session | Hendersonville Tn Artistic Senior Pictures by Photographer | Anjeanette Illustration Photography
Great meeting up with Senior Savannah at the Historic Palace in Gallatin for a theatre themed senior shoot before heading over to a golden field for sunny dramatic photos! At the time we were taking pictures Savannah was preparing for her school production of Grease, however the most important part of her senior portrait session was including her furry baby Toby in some of her portraits. Toby is hilarious, he looks like a miniature dark grey and brown Wookie and I swear he can cock one eyebrow and roll his eyes. He was the perfect model although I suspect silent judgment- just kidding. Savannah is one of those charismatic people who instantly makes you smile and laugh. We met at church in Hendersonville, Tn through the youth program she is actively involved in, and where her mama mentors my daughter in a small group! She has a great personality, an expressive demeanor and a wonderful smile. She’s confident, both when chatting about school and life, and even when she’s standing by herself in the middle of a field getting her photo taken waving to parade style to passerbys.
We had beautiful weather for her senior photo session. I am one of those photographers who doesn't just wait around all day for sunset (and I love sunset golden hour do not get me wrong) I love bright back light! It work amazingly for dramatic shots with flash as well as in natural light with a low ISO and a high shutter speed. I didn't want to be stuck only taking photos at one time of day, so because high noon sun can be pretty intimidating I got out and practiced and listened to my hero Jasmine Stars videos and made it work in the middle of the day. Well, wouldn't you know its my favorite time to photograph now? Makes me want to move to SoCal where the sunny days average a whole lot higher than what feels like semi tropical middle Tennessee. So. Many. Grey. Rainy. Skies. I really need to find my best practices for overcast grey, I truthfully admit they are not my favorites.
Not a problem for Savannah senior portraits though! Bright sunshine glow wrapped all over Savannah that late summer day, while at the same time providing us with some great light to work with. I think I actually set a new record for the number of images taken at a senior session! This is the one where I honestly considered my niche- and afterwards choose to only do Seniors and Weddings! I still photograph friends families, and their children, as well as at weddings there are lots of family style portraits, but this was a pivotal day for me career wise. No more marketing to everybody. I think a huge part of that decision was all the fun and excitement Savannah brought to the session! Seniors are amazing, and all the personality in their sessions make them so artistic and enjoyable. Much like Savannah, they want to explore and try out fun ideas, and they are not afraid to plunge into the world and make it happen. Go take on the world girl!
