Senior Isabella has been voted “most likely to always have the most awesome Instagram page” by me- her cosplay and theatre photo feed is beyond amazing! So needless to say I was VERY excited to meet up with B for her official senior portrait session around downtown Phoenix! We started at her home theatre, while her theatre friends rehearsed in the background, capturing Bella in her natural element. Then off to the convention center area which holds many good memories for this Shadow Mountain drama buff from theatre classes and retreats to intense cons where she created and posed in an impressive amount of intricate and gorgeous cosplay costumes with friends. I love that she brought her Schitts Creek & Once Upon A Time ‘bound’ low key David and Emma Swan looks along with the best props- autographed playbills from her New York musical and play trip!

Soccer in the Pandemic
This has been the year for composited group photos like never before. Composite images are fantastic anytime, they look epic, creative, and fun- plus you can always see everyone’s face well which isn’t always the case with large group photography. However this year they gave teams and groups the unique opportunity to still have the group photos of teammates for keepsakes. Socially distance and SAFE! I keep saying it, but, this years seniors as last years are missing out on SO many memories and milestones but great photos do not have to be missed out on!
Thankfully the Shadow Mountain High School ladies soccer team get to have their season after all the disappointments and events lost out on!! I pray for better healthier days for all of us and the very best for the class of 2021 as they tackle their new adventures!!!

Great session with hilarious drumline guy Landon in downtown Phoenix! Landon made me laugh the whole afternoon, we had fun checking out the Grant Street Studios neighborhood where he showed off his stick skills out in the fresh cool air- SO different than when he normally practices for the Eagle Pride Marching band on field approx the same temperature as the surface of the sun. Then we made our way to Scorpion Gulch at South Mountain for sunset. Yes, there were about 8,000 other photography sessions going on there but Landon kept his cool and calm posing and ignoring all the noise. Great kid, thanks for doing all the wacky poses I asked and making me laugh!

I knew Jared was a world-class percussionist, incredible marcher in band and battery performance, good looking, and my favorite- a super funny and lighthearted guy. What I totally didn’t expect was how cool and easy he made getting photos taken look. He switched gears from smiles to edgy expressions- he posed like a freaking model! Awesome work Jared!

I tried really hard, and failed, to find a song that had a vibe like League of Legends for Joshua- it was so hard to pin down! I liked the cinematic feel of this song “Ageless”, by Ian Locke though. Locke has a great sound making this song a good match for Josh’s chill, laid back & cool personality!
awesome session downtown with Joshua over the weekend. He said he was interested in portraits with architectural elements so we checked out the areas around the light rail downtown. Stopped by my favorite parking garage, and HAD to stop by one of my all-time favorite coffee shops @thegrandaz because they have the coolest aesthetic (yummy and gorgeous spot!) I really want to learn the whole history of that building- they are also the nicest folks!
I did learn about the Western Ho radio tower history- Joshua’s mom old me this was the hipest hotel spot back in the day for old hollywood stars to stay! I have been wanting to try to get an extreme angle shot up the radio spear for awhile and we got it this time using the R6’s fold-out and a 17mm - I didn’t even have lay on the sidewalk downtown. Because while I def don’t mind getting dirty for the shot...I’d rather get desert burrs and dirt than city sidewalk all over me

Phoenix School for the Arts dancer Brooke was a joy to watch twirl and leap- and have a bit of a Disney princess moment with a roadrunner (name unknown) at the Desert Botanical Gardens. She absolutely glowed in the December afternoon sun as it drifted over the cacti in the Ottosen garden! Congratulations on your upcoming commencement and future adventures!
