As a student at Sandra Day O'Connor High School, Ryan's high school experience was a whirlwind of activities. Can you imagine juggling competitive marching band, ROTC, playing electric guitar, and being a member of the track team to mention a few? When it came time for his senior portraits, Ryan wanted to capture not just his academic achievements but also the passions that defined his high school journey.

Into the Wild Blue Yonder

With his parents help, we went above (flight pun sorry) and beyond to create a one-of-a-kind experience for this exceptional senior. Ryan's parents had a special surprise in store for him at the end of his senior portrait session. Ryan recently received an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy – a dream come true for this aspiring aviator. To celebrate this momentous achievement, his parents arranged for me to visit the airport for portraits with a friends plane, and then Lt Colonel Daniel Deahler, USAF (ret.) took Ryan on a flight, soaring through the skies in an experimental plane!

Can you imagine the thrill of capturing Ryan's portraits with this backdrop? It was as if his dreams of becoming a pilot had already taken flight and I got to be there to document it!

These portraits tell the story of a young man who embraced every opportunity, who dared to dream big, and who left an indelible mark on the halls of Sandra Day O'Connor High School. As Ryan embarks on his next adventure at the United States Air Force Academy, his senior portraits will serve as a cherished reminder of the journey that brought him to this point. It will be amazing to see him to continue reaching for the stars, knowing that his dreams truly have no limits.

Hey senior squad! SO goofy sounding hahah. ANYWAYS…Picture this: senior year is winding down, the future beckons, and you're ready to capture all the feels in epic photos. Well, that's exactly what Kaitlyn, a soon-to-be college music major and Mountain Ridge High School grad, did with her Adventure package senior session! We traded the familiar hallways for the majestic Glanis Sand Dunes in Brawley, California, and the results were pure magic.

For the past four years, Kaitlyn's been a rockstar (well, technically a bass clarinetist!) in the Mountain Ridge Wind Ensemble and Marching Band. Remember the band that keeps on winning State competition? Yep, Kaitlyn was right there in the heart of it all, leading her section with passion and precision. I’m blessed to have been there to document a lot of it and watch her grow! That's right, yours truly! Seeing her dedication and musicality translate from the field to her future at GCC and NAU is truly inspiring.

Kaitlyn came prepared for her session with a wardrobe mix of casual and dressy, each outfit reflecting a different facet of her personality. Comfy jeans for that laid-back vibe, a flowy dresses that danced in the desert breeze, and even a stunning gown that transformed the dunes into a high-fashion runway. It wasn't just about looking good (though let's be honest, she rocked every single look!), it was about showcasing the many sides of Kaitlyn – the musician, the adventurer, the future music major ready to conquer the world.

Kaitlyn's fashion was epic. Having 3-5 well-chosen outfits that reflect your personality is key. Just one or two outfit changes can feel limiting during a session. Finding the sweet spot is important.‘

It was a dark and stormy Sunday…well not exactly but it WAS overcast, winter rain was threatening, and it was cloudy as all get out. Do people still say that? Thing is - I hate cloudy days! Clouds are a favorite of many photographers with their ‘giant softbox’ ‘saturated colors’ and blah blah blah, but not for me. I didn’t move to Arizona to see no clouds! As a professional you gotta be ready for anything, and able to make any condition work. So I prefer the golden hour backlit glow. USUALLY that is. This session was so dramatic and epic I almost change my mind about cloudy days!

 

Thomas’ easy, relaxed smile and fun loving personality make any day light up- aw! He is a cute kid! A member of the Class of 2024, he holds the distinguished role of Drum Major in the Eagle Pride Marching Band with a dedication to music and leadership shines through in every frame of his senior pictures. As an Arizona native, Thomas is no stranger to the desert heat, but with graduation on the horizon, he's eagerly anticipating the cooler temperatures and new adventures awaiting him at NAU.

The stunning backdrop of Sonoran Mountain Preserve served as a unique canvas for capturing Thomas' personality and accomplishments. Senior photos are not just about capturing a moment in time; they are about celebrating achievements and preserving memories that will be cherished for years to come. Thomas' graduation portraits beautifully encapsulate the essence of his high school journey – from the camaraderie of marching band rehearsals to the excitement of looking towards the future.

As Thomas transitions into the next chapter of his academic and personal journey, these senior pictures will serve as a timeless reminder of his growth, resilience, and the unwavering support of his family and community. The Arizona Marching Band Association Division I Championships crackled with electric energy, the culmination of months of tireless practice and unwavering dedication. And at the heart of it all, amidst the booming brass, thundering drums, and dazzling visuals, I had the incredible privilege of capturing each AzMBA marching bands group portraits.

From the moment I stepped onto the Mountain Pointe High campus I was swept up in the whirlwind of band spirit. The air hummed with a symphony of anticipation, uniforms crisply pressed, instruments gleaming under the sun. Faces, etched with nervous excitement, transformed into fierce determination as the first notes soared skyward. As the AzMBA team marched onto the field, a collective roar from the stands ignited the atmosphere, setting the stage for a performance etched in memory.

To all of the bands marching and performing at the AzMBA championships this year with such heart and fire, let these photographs be a lasting ode to your season. A testament to the countless hours, the tireless dedication, the unwavering spirit that defines the marching band experience.

And to the parents, the families, the supporters who cheer from the sidelines, let these portraits capture the essence of your child's passion. See the joy in their eyes, the pride in their stance, the sheer dedication radiating from every note they play. These are the moments that make it all worth it, the culmination of years of practice, the reward for every early morning and late-night rehearsal.
