Meet Kate, graduating senior from Mountain Ridge High School. I met Kates while they were an incredible member of the marching and concert bands, and the wind ensemble, where they played the saxophone. Kate’s dedicated to their music but is still unsure if they will continue in band when in their future adventures in Tucson at the University of Arizona. After years of hard practicing it may be time for a break to explore other interests and passions! I feel so honored to have been a part of Kate’s Marching band career, at competitions and senior banners while with the Pride of the West Media Team, and individually after my kids graduated band. Their senior banner was proudly displayed on the football field and at competitions, was a testament to their hard work and accomplishments. Kate’s journey has been nothing short of amazing.

For our photo session, Kate chose a Mini Sesh at Deems Hills Park at sunset. The mini is the sweet spot for seniors and parents who want great senior photos, but are only want a couple of outfits, and a shorter time commitment without a video.

This location is absolutely magical, especially as the sun dips below the mountain horizon, casting a warm, golden light over everything.

Natural Light

The natural light at Deems Hills was perfect for creating a rich, artistic glow. I love working with natural light; it brings out such beautiful, authentic tones. I also love using a flash to capture both the stunning sky and Kate in perfect lighting. Because I don’t photoshop in fake skies (or skies that were not really there) using flash to illuminate the subject while the camera is set to capture the sky gives me the best of both worlds for awesome lighting! Without flash you have the choice to see either your subject OR the sky…but the cool thing about being an available light photographer like myself is the chance to capture both distinct looks! The combination of natural and artificial light created dynamic effects, highlighting Kate’s unique style and personality.

Flash Lighting

Kate’s outfit choices were spot on – they started with a burgundy suit jacket paired with classic Chucks, giving off a cool, confident vibe. Later, they changed into a University of Arizona sweatshirt, ready for their exciting new chapter in Tucson.

Kate’s choice of outfits really showcased their personality. The burgundy suit jacket was bold and stylish, a perfect match for their confident demeanor. One of my favorite captures was when Kate stood against the backdrop of the setting sun, their burgundy suit jacket catching a little wind with the rare and epic blue clouds behind them. Ok there wasn’t actually any wind! Mom stood by to flip up the jacket before quickly diving out of the way! Kate is so poised and confident, ready to take on the world. The contrast between the deep burgundy and the cool blues of the sky well before sunset was stunning.

The University of Arizona sweatshirt, on the other hand, was a nod to their future and all the exciting opportunities that await. It was a great way to capture both who they are now and who they’re on the way to becoming.

We had a lot of fun during the session, too. Kate’s sense of humor and laid-back attitude kept things light and enjoyable. We wandered through the park, chatting about their future plans and reminiscing about their time in the band. Kate is so excited about heading to the University of Arizona & can’t wait to explore all that Tucson has to offer!

As the session came to an end, the sky turned a deep, dusky pink, providing the perfect backdrop for some final shots. These photos will be a wonderful keepsake for Kate as they embark on their new journey.

I’m so proud of Kate and all they’ve accomplished. From their time in the marching and concert bands to their upcoming adventures at the University of Arizona, they have shown incredible dedication, talent, and resilience. I can’t wait to see all the amazing things they’ll do in the future. Kate, thank you for such a memorable session. Your enthusiasm, humor, and passion for music are truly inspiring. Ethan is gearing up for some epic adventures in Flagstaff! He has this cool, laid-back vibe that made our photo session an absolute blast. Ethan wanted a rustic, outdoorsy location for his senior photos, and I knew just the place – the Peoria Regional Preserve.

This place is hands down one of my favorite desert locations. We set out on the preserve’s trails, surrounded by rugged rocks, endless saguaros, and stunning views of the Westwing and Eastwing mountains. The scenery was perfect for capturing Ethan’s adventurous spirit and his excitement for the future.

Ethan’s enthusiasm for his future adventures in Flagstaff was infectious. He’s so pumped about the natural beauty up there, the pine forests, and the cooler weather. I could see that same excitement as we walked through the preserve. It’s as if he was already imagining himself hiking through the trails and exploring the great outdoors. That’s the thing about Ethan – he’s always looking ahead, dreaming big, and ready for the next adventure.

As we wandered through the preserve, we found the most amazing spots for photos. The late afternoon light was perfect, casting a golden glow over everything. Ethan was a natural in front of the camera, totally relaxed and cool. His laid-back attitude made the whole session feel like a casual walk with a friend rather than a formal photo shoot.

Ethan’s easygoing nature was evident throughout the session. He’s one of those people who just goes with the flow, which made the experience enjoyable and stress-free. It’s no wonder he’s excited about Flagstaff – it’s a place that perfectly matches his adventurous and chill personality. I have no doubt he’s going to thrive up there, making the most of every opportunity and embracing all the new experiences.

We ended the session as the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm, orange glow over the landscape. The desert has this magical way of transforming in the evening light, and it was the perfect ending to a fantastic day. Ethan’s excitement for the future was palpable, and I felt so honored to capture this special moment in his life.

Ethan, if you’re reading this, I just want to say thank you for such a fun and memorable session. Your adventurous spirit and laid-back attitude are truly inspiring. I can’t wait to see all the amazing things you’ll do in Flagstaff and beyond. Keep dreaming big and chasing those adventures!

Ella Mountain Ridge High Class of 2024 | Arizona Senior Portrait Sessions by Phoenix photographer Anjeanette Photography

Ella is truly one of a kind! When I first met her, I was immediately captivated by her striking blue eyes and vibrant red hair. They create such a stunning contrast against the rich greens and earthy tones of the Desert Botanical Gardens. It was the perfect location to capture her unique beauty and dynamic personality.

During our session, Ella’s eyes sparkled like the clear Arizona sky, well, usually thats the color of the Phoenix sky. Ella had a rare treat however! The sky was a giant softbox with overcast cool tones keeping us cool and making the colors pop twice as saturated and rich as usual. Ella who I suspect is always stands out as exceptional really popped against the garden landscapes. Her red hair, fiery and full of life, really did dance in the breeze. Every photograph seemed to capture a moment of pure magic, as if the desert blooms themselves were in awe!

The Desert Botanical Gardens provided a stunning backdrop for Ella’s senior photos. The vibrant colors and diverse plant life perfectly complemented her vivid features, creating a series of images that are both timeless and unique. Each photo tells a story, capturing the essence of who Ella is and the bright future that lies ahead.

Ella’s accomplishments go far beyond her physical appearance. She’s on the honor roll and has been for as long as she can remember. Graduating two years early is no small feat, and Ella has done it with grace and resilience. Her hard work and dedication are truly inspiring, and it’s clear that she’s destined for great things.

In addition to her academic prowess, Ella is heading to ASU to continue her education. She’s excited to dive into new challenges and opportunities, eager to soak up knowledge and experiences. Her passion for learning and her unyielding spirit will undoubtedly lead her to success in her future endeavors.

Ella’s journey has been marked by hard work, perseverance, and a passion for excellence. Her early graduation is a testament to her commitment to her education and her desire to make the most of every opportunity. As she prepares to start her next chapter at ASU, I have no doubt that she will continue to shine and inspire those around her.

Zac has been an absolute rockstar in the Eagle Pride Marching Band, showcasing their unwavering dedication to colorguard and winterguard over the past four years. It's been an incredible journey watching Zac grow from a freshman with a passion for performance to a seasoned senior leading the team with charisma and skill!

From the moment Zac joined the colorguard team, their talent and commitment shone brightly. Whether it's spinning flags with precision or executing intricate choreography flawlessly, Zac's performances have always been a highlight of every marching band event. Their ability to synchronize movements with the music and convey emotion through their routines is truly impressive.

Zac wanted to have their senior photos taken near a waterfall. However, due to their busy schedule with extracurricular activities, traveling north a few hours to a natural waterfall wasn't feasible. That's when we discovered the perfect solution - Arizona Falls in Scottsdale! Located along the man-made Arizona Canal, Arizona Falls provided the picturesque but Modern water backdrop Zac envisioned, right here in the heart of Phoenix.

Despite the bustling urban surroundings, the sight and sound of cascading water against the desert landscape created a serene and captivating atmosphere. For a second spot we drove over to Papago Park for palms and a glowy sunset over the mountains to shine on Zac. Zac's photos captured personality and discovery of their high schools years - a blend of natural beauty and urban vibrancy that perfectly complemented their personality and achievements. I love that Zac worn a a well fitted suit and dinosaur tie for formal portraits- such a dynamic and cool combo!

We had to stay flexible when that Phoenix traffic got in the way of our plans delaying the second location- but we all worked together to make sure they didn’t lose any time from their package when circumstances were beyond our control. It was a lot of fun planning Zac’s senior session, getting to play with lights and Zac’s camera ready, effortlessly cool outfits. I love it when the session flows like a magazine fashion editorial sesh!!

Beyond their achievements in colorguard and winterguard, Zac has been a source of inspiration and camaraderie within the marching band. They've fostered friendships, supported their teammates, and contributed to the band's success with their positive attitude and leadership skills. Whether it's performing at halftime shows, competing in regional competitions, or cheering on fellow band members, Zac has left an enduring impact on the Eagle Pride community.

As Zac prepares to graduate and pursue new adventures beyond high school, their legacy in the marching band will be cherished. Their dedication, talent, and infectious enthusiasm have set a high standard for future members of the colorguard team. We're proud to have captured these moments at Arizona Falls, where Zac's spirit and passion for performance truly shine through.

To Zac and all the seniors graduating this year, congratulations on your accomplishments! Seize the Season: Why Fall Senior Portraits Are better and more Stress-Free

Book Before January!

Capturing one of the most memorable times of your lives with a portrait session is an awesome way to commemorate the end of high school before the start of new adventures, and fall is the perfect time! It's that sweet spot before the holiday rush, and there's a certain magic in the air as the Arizona temps finally go a little below 90 degrees ha! There is a lot happening during the fall of your senior year- football games, sports and choir concerts, Homecoming and plans for your first year after high school. So why should you get senior portraits done before January with all of that happening? Because fall portraits are a lot less stressful. The pace just skyrockets the second semester.

First off, the weather. Phoenix can be unpredictable, but fall usually brings cooler temperatures, perfect for outdoor photo sessions. No one wants to be sweating during their photo shoot, right? While autumn is short in the Valley, October and November offer a comfortable climate that helps everyone feel at ease. When you're not worrying about melting in the heat, it's easier to relax and enjoy the moment, and that translates to better photos.

Another reason to book your senior portrait session before January is the beautiful fall scenery. There are even a few spots where changing leaves and soft autumn colors for stunning backdrops for photos.

Timing is another crucial factor. By scheduling your portraits in the fall, you avoid the end-of-year rush. Come January, everyone’s calendar fills up with school activities, sports, college applications, and holiday plans. Squeezing in a photo session can be incredibly stressful. I'm gonna be honest here, January and Febuary do get cold, are usually the drabbest and greyest months, and they get seriously windy. I can't photoshop the wind out of your hair in a natural way with all the AI in the world. The most rain outs and rescheduled happen those months as well unfortunately. Who would want a grey flat day when they could have that Golden hour glow in October and November?

Parents and seniors, let's not forget about deadlines. Many yearbooks have early submission deadlines for senior photos, often around November and January. Waiting until the last minute can mean missing out on those deadlines and potentially having to settle for rushed, lower-quality photos from local pharmacies that make you look like you have green, orange, or maganta skin. Getting your portraits done earlier means you have plenty of time to select the perfect shots for announcements too.

There’s also availability issues. Photographers’ schedules fill up quickly, especially as the end of the year approaches. I don't say this to brag but I have had to turn away and recommend folks that hopefully have openings every spring. We have so many amazing talented photographers- but there are only so many days on the calendar in the spring! By booking your session in the fall, you have a better chance of securing your preferred date and time.

Booking your senior portrait session before January also means you’ll have your photos ready in time for holiday gifts. Custom photo gifts are a heartfelt way to share your senior’s milestone with family and friends. Whether it’s a beautifully framed print for grandma or a photo album for mom and dad, these gifts are sure to be treasured.

Don't ignore the stress factor. We all know how hectic life can get, especially before graduation. Between studying for exams, participating in extracurricular activities, and planning for the future, there’s a lot on your plate. Adding a last-minute photo session to that mix can be overwhelming. By scheduling your portraits in the fall, you’re giving yourself the gift of time to prepare, time to relax, and time to enjoy the experience without added panic.

If you’re thinking about senior portraits, don’t wait until January. Take advantage of the beautiful fall weather, the stunning scenery, and the relaxed timeframe to create portraits you’ll love. It’s a decision you won’t regret, and the results will be timeless memories captured perfectly.

Shadow Mountain Baseball Class of 2024 | Phoenix Senior Photographer ANJEANETTE PHOTOGRAPHY

The Matador Baseball field was the site of both celebration and bittersweet goodbyes April 18th as the seniors on the played their final home game. The annual Senior Night tradition allows the team's upperclassmen to be honored and create one last core memory at the field where they've spent so many hours honing their skills over the past four years, followed by dinner with the team afterwards.

The five seniors - Colin, James, Jaxson, Joey, and Trenton - were treated to a night full of personalized fanfare and recognition.

Barrett & Brady Paradise Valley High Class of 2024 | Phoenix AZ Senior Graduation Pictures by Arizona Photographer Anjeanette Photography

How freakin' cool are Barrett and Brady?! These Paradise Valley High twin athletes totally rocked their senior portrait session in the desert. We met up at my favorite Sonoran desert spots for some guy-centered fun in the sun. As soon as the brothers showed up looking sharp in their suits, I knew we were in for awesome portraits. They may not have been super excited intially, worried about what mom signed them up for but after a minute getting comfortable they definitely brought the style AND the smiles!

After getting those classic suited-up shots, we switched gears to a more laid-back vibe with Hawaiian shirts and khakis. The bright prints and beachy attire made for the perfect contrast against the Peoria desert backdrop. Can you say best of both worlds?

Whether they were dressed to the nines or keeping it casual, Barrett and Brady's energetic personalities really shined. These two weren't afraid to get model posing on and have some laughs between poses! As twin athletes, they obviously know how to vibe off each other's energy. Their bond added such an awesome dynamic to the photos. Seeing that authentic twin connection made their portraits so special.

Of course, we also made sure to get plenty of individual shots highlighting each guy's unique spirit. Despite being twins, Barrett and Brady have distinctly different looks and personalities that deserved their own time to shine. Both of them totally killed it working the camera solo!

Between the suits, casual looks, desert scenery, and unstoppable positive vibes, this senior portrait session pretty much had it all. It was the perfect setting to capture the awesome essence of these twin athletes before they head off to college next year. Congratulations to the soon-to-be Paradise Valley grads on an epic photo shoot!

Charli Cactus Shadows Class of 2024 | Phoenix & Peoria Graduation Pictures & High School Photographer ANJEANETTE PHOTOGRAPHY

There's nothing quite like working with a vibrant subject in an equally vibrant setting. That's exactly what went down during Charli's senior portrait sesh downtown on lively Roosevelt Row.

Charli's outfits were awesome, straight fire as the kids say, and meshed perfectly with the eye-popping street murals coating the urban landscape. We're talking black biker jacket, casual tanks and jeans, plus a soft slip dress- they all contrasted so fresh against those contemporary backdrops. Charli is a total smokeshow, so obvs the resulting shots were amazing!

We kicked things off with some poses at my go-to spot behind Carly's Bistro that captured Charli's natural knack for slaying in front of the lens. Her infectious smile and confident aura just radiated through the camera as I immortalized her carefree spirit. As we got into the groove, we bounced around the neighborhood hitting up different murals. Each new backdrop was a blank canvas - from bold abstract pieces to wild intricate art.

My mission was blending every element into a seamless vibe for each frame. I guided her through diff poses while letting her personality take the spotlight. The warm afternoon light eventually gave way to overcast skies, so she got a mix of contrasty and hazy natural-light portraits and hard-hitting flash shots that punched through the clouds for epic drama - best of both worlds! Her genuine moods and expressions nailed that senior year portrait experience. As her photographer, I aimed to craft a cinematic narrative - a visual story arcing across this major milestone in her life's journey. As a senior portrait photographer, I'm always excited when a client comes to me with a distinct vision for their session. That's precisely what happened with Gia, a smart and confident senior from Mountain Ridge High School's Class of 2024. Instead of the typical desert scenes, Gia envisioned a lush, romantic setting filled with vibrant greens and blooming florals – a perfect representation of her own radiant spirit.

Our adventure began at the Scottsdale Greenway, a verdant oasis in the heart of the city. We strolled through the winding paths, the lush grass, towering trees, and even and underpass off the wash ha! It all provided a stunning backdrop for Gia's portraits. We played with different angles under the sun, then the softbox clouds rolled in, her unique personality to shine through the photos organically.

After basking in the Greenway's natural splendor, we ventured to the Waterfront at Fashion Square, where the upscale urban backdrop of Old Towne provided a striking contrast to our earlier setting. With the tranquil waterfront property as our stage, Gia's portraits took on a metro flair. Spring in Arizona is magical. The perfect temperatures, lush greenery, and blooming Jacoranda that smell like grape gum and purple Tulip trees created an idyllic canvas for Gia's portraits, much like a vibrant painting coming to life before our eyes.

From the moment Sarah stepped in front of my lens, her confidence and artistic flair radiated like a burst of color. With her gorgeous, multi-hued hair and a smile that could brighten any room, she exuded a chill, calm energy that made capturing her true self an absolute pleasure.

One thing that struck me about Sarah was her willingness to embrace her authenticity. Unlike many seniors who feel pressured to conform to traditional notions of how they should look or act, Sarah celebrated her individuality without apology. She didn't need to force a cheesy grin or strike over-the-top poses – her natural charisma and self-assurance were more than enough to create stunning portraits.

Not all portraits need to be big, toothy smiles. I don't ‘make’ seniors "cheese" for the camera. Instead, I want their portraits to reflect their personalities and unique qualities, just like Sarah's did. As a senior portrait photographer, I've come to realize that a great portrait transcends big toothy grins. I love a big smile, and personally, I am a big goofy grinner- but a seniors portraits are about THEM. Their portraits are about unveiling the unique spirit and individuality of each person I work with.

As a student at Sandra Day O'Connor High School, Ryan's high school experience was a whirlwind of activities. Can you imagine juggling competitive marching band, ROTC, playing electric guitar, and being a member of the track team to mention a few? When it came time for his senior portraits, Ryan wanted to capture not just his academic achievements but also the passions that defined his high school journey.

Into the Wild Blue Yonder

With his parents help, we went above (flight pun sorry) and beyond to create a one-of-a-kind experience for this exceptional senior. Ryan's parents had a special surprise in store for him at the end of his senior portrait session. Ryan recently received an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy – a dream come true for this aspiring aviator. To celebrate this momentous achievement, his parents arranged for me to visit the airport for portraits with a friends plane, and then Lt Colonel Daniel Deahler, USAF (ret.) took Ryan on a flight, soaring through the skies in an experimental plane!

Can you imagine the thrill of capturing Ryan's portraits with this backdrop? It was as if his dreams of becoming a pilot had already taken flight and I got to be there to document it!

These portraits tell the story of a young man who embraced every opportunity, who dared to dream big, and who left an indelible mark on the halls of Sandra Day O'Connor High School. As Ryan embarks on his next adventure at the United States Air Force Academy, his senior portraits will serve as a cherished reminder of the journey that brought him to this point. It will be amazing to see him to continue reaching for the stars, knowing that his dreams truly have no limits.

Let's talk about Piper's senior pictures! Piper’s Phoenix senior pictures Action package took us to Gold Canyon’s Boyce Thompson Arbetorum, one of the most beautiful areas in the southern eastern side of Tonto National Forest.  

This sweet class of 2024 senior is a student at Anthem Prep active in her church community, volunteering, writing, & crafting. You could just feel her bubbly, upbeat personality shining through in every single shot. Brighter than the sun, before and after it dipped behind clouds to make the sky a giant dramatic softbox!

Can we talk about her outfits for a sec? Piper had not one, not two, but FIVE outfits for her session - perfectly centered around her signature sunny yellow color! I was excited when she showed me her outfit ideas a few weeks before the session when we chatted with mom...you can never have too many outfit changes during a senior portrait session. Ok well you COULD, especially if you change fromon e to the next slowly ha! But 3-5 outfits seemsto be the perfect amount to keep the session fresh and full of variety whileshowingoff aspects of your fashion personalities. Seriously, not having enough outfits is such a bigger problem than having too many. Think about it - if you only have one or two looks, we're really limited for your portraits. But if you bring a whole wardrobe of cute attire? We can switch up the vibe and take advantage of all the amazing scenery around us.

With Piper's five fits, we were able to capture her bright, cheerful essence at multiple scenic spots around the arboretum grounds. Those brilliant yellow hues popped so beautifully against the lush greenery and desert flora. I'm obsessed! Now you know how I feel about wardrobe changes during sessions. The more, the merrier! An abundance of outfits equals an abundance of amazing portraits. It's honestly a struggle for me to photograph an entire senior session with just one or two looks. I always see a little more of a persons vibe with each outfit.

Seniors, if Piper's vibrant pictures have you eager for your own portrait session, get on my calendar ASAP! I'm already booking fast for the Class of 2025. This year, I actually had to turn seniors away because my schedule was completely full by mid-February. The popular dates go so quickly!

In the end, Piper's sunny senior portraits turned out absolutely beautifully. Her bright yellow outfits were the perfect embodiment of her joyful, optimistic spirit. I'm so grateful she took my advice about wardrobe changes to heart - it resulted in a vibrant, multi-faceted gallery her family will treasure forever.

The session began with a casual and chic combination of jeans and a tank top, showcasing her down-to-earth demeanor. As the session progressed, Katelyn transitioned into flowy boho dresses, their delicate fabrics and vibrant colors complementing the stunning Arizona landscape and her adventurous spirit. We split her 4-hour Adventure package into two different days so we could include even more locations and outfits! Each outfit change wasn't just about aesthetics; it was a chance for Katelyn to express different aspects of herself, highlighting her unique sense of style and confidence.

With the sun hidden in clouds, Maggie's senior portrait session at The Ghost Ship and Bookmans took on an air of mystery and intrigue. This was a fitting backdrop for a young woman whose artistic vision embraces the enigmatic and the unexplored.

Maggie is no ordinary high school senior. She is an artist and photographer in her own right, with a dark and captivating aesthetic that draws inspiration from the depths of the unknown. Her love for pirates and the haunting melodies of her guitar strings perfectly encapsulate her fascination with the mysterious. She is NOT gloomy shadows however, but a gorgeous spirit who finds beauty in things some may consider dark. An intelligent, romantic, and artistic realist.

As Albert Einstein so eloquently put it, "The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science." Maggie embodies this sentiment, using her own camera lens to capture the beauty that lies beyond the veil of the ordinary.

In the shelves of Bookmans Maggie was in her element, surrounded by the wisdom, music, and stories of those who have dared to explore the boundaries of the unknown. At the Ghost Ship bar downtown, we ran around like excited kids at Disney whose favorite rides are The Haunted Mansion and The Pirates of the Caribbean! So many curious corners and gestures!

As the sun dipped low over the dusty plains of Sahuro Ranch, casting long shadows across the saguaro cacti, Amelia's emerald eyes sparkled with a mix of excitement and anticipation. As a dedicated member of the EaglePride Winter Guard and a fervent enthusiast of thriller novels, Amelia's session was filled with personal touches that reflected her passions and interests. She moves with the grace of a dancer and the precision of a warrior. Her love for the dramatic extends beyond the stage, as she devours thriller novels with the same intensity she brings to her performances. It was this unique blend of strength, artistry, and intellectual curiosity that I wanted to capture in her senior photos.

Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Sahuro Ranch, adorned with gem tones and graced by majestic peacocks, Amelia's portraits captured her essence with remarkable clarity. Her striking green eyes added a captivating allure to each photograph, emphasizing her individuality and depth of character. The setting of Sahuro Ranch couldn't have been more perfect. The sprawling desert landscape, with its vibrant gem tones of ochre, rust, and terracotta, provided a stunning backdrop for Amelia's portraits.
